First National Bank offers several options to choose from to protect your Checking Account in the event a transaction results in an overdrawn balance. We also provide many tools, including online banking, mobile banking and account alerts, to help you manage your account.

**Overdrafts are paid at our discretion which means we do not guarantee that we will always authorize and pay any type of transaction.
We will limit to 10 the combined number of Overdraft / NSF Fees charged on any one business day, up to a total of $300.

Alerts are a great way to keep you informed when certain events happen on your accounts, for example if your account falls below a specified amount we can notify you by text, email or simply alerting you the next time you log in to internet banking. To add a new alert, just log in to internet banking and choose ALERTS from the top, right section of your screen. Next, select the category and type of alert you'd like to receive. If you would like the alerts to go to your mobile device, enter your phone number and select your carrier. That's it! Stay in control of your accounts with text alerts!

First National Bank Overdraft Courtesy Services Customer Policy
This discretionary service is offered to our customers who open or have an existing eligible checking account.
Overdraft Courtesy is a discretionary service. First National Bank is not obligated to pay any item presented for payment if your account does not contain sufficient available funds. Approval of payment of reasonable overdrafts by First National Bank on consumer accounts in good standing (as described below) is only a courtesy, and not a right or an obligation. Payment is within First National Bank’s sole and absolute discretion and can cease at any time without prior notice or reason or cause.
Under our policy we strive to pay your overdrafts when your account meets certain discretionary criteria. The criteria may include, but is not limited to, any or all of the following and is subject to change without notice:
- The age of your account.
- The deposit behavior in your account and any related accounts.
- The overdraft behavior of your account and any related accounts.
- The status of any loan or other obligation to us.
- The status of any legal or administrative order or levy.
- Overdraft Courtesy covers checks, in person withdrawals and electronic transactions such as automatic payments, online bill pay and recurring debit card purchases i.e. monthly utilities.
- Overdraft Courtesy is automatically applied to your account unless you decline the service.

- Overdraft Courtesy Plus covers ATM withdrawals and one-time debit card transactions used at point of sale.

Order of payment
The bank always posts deposits first. It is the bank’s policy to post items that are clearing your account in the following order:
1. Telephone transfers (smallest to largest dollar amounts)
2. Loan Payments (smallest to largest dollar amounts)
3. Wire Transfer withdrawals (smallest to largest dollar amounts)
4. One-time Debit card charges (smallest to largest dollar amounts)
5. ATM withdrawals (smallest to largest dollar amounts)
6. ACH withdrawals (smallest to largest dollar amounts)
7. Recurring Debit card charges (smallest to largest dollar amounts)
8. In Bank Transfer withdrawals (smallest to largest dollar amounts)
9. Checks (smallest to largest check number)
The Bank reserves the right to change the payment order if the Bank suspects fraud or possible illegal activity affecting the account. Bank also reserves the right to post in any order, as permitted by law.
Repayment of overdrafts
The total of the overdrawn balance, including any and all bank fees and charges, including all overdraft fee charges is due and payable upon demand. Depositor and each Authorized Signatory will continue to be liable, jointly and severally, for all such amounts, as described in the Deposit Account Agreement. The amount you are overdrawn plus your bank’s fees will be deducted immediately, in full, from your next deposit(s) – including from payroll deposits made by your employer, government benefit deposits, and other direct deposits on which you may depend.
Closing of account
If your account is not returned to a positive balance within 60 days of the date it first become overdrawn, your account will be closed and reported to national reporting agencies.
The Bank will charge you an overdraft fee of $30.00 each time the bank pays an item into overdraft. The Bank also will charge an NSF fee for items not paid into overdraft. Your account may be assessed multiple overdraft charges up to a maximum of Ten (10) overdraft/NSF fees per day or $300.00 total per day. Fees are subject to change. You will receive advance notice of any fee increase in accordance with state and federal law.
Declining Overdraft Courtesy
If you do not wish to be included in our Overdraft Courtesy and would prefer to have your overdraft items returned, please contact your local branch of First National Bank. Please understand that an NSF fee of $30.00 will be assessed if your item is returned.
Opt In / Opt Out of Overdraft Courtesy Plus
You have a choice of whether you would like the Bank to strive to pay your one-time debit card transactions or ATM withdrawals. To Opt In or Opt Out of this service you may do so by contacting your local branch, either by phone or in writing or on our website at: www.firstnationalbanks.com/co-sd/opt-in-form.aspx
If you Opt In, please understand that our standard fee of $30 will assessed on each overdraft item we authorize and pay.
While the bank believes Overdraft Courtesy is a tremendous service in the unlikely event you have an overdraft, we are not encouraging you to overdraw your account.
